SciFY is a not-for-profit organization, that develops cutting-edge information technology systems and freely offers them to all, including the design, the implementation details, and the support needed, in order to solve real-life problems.

We use our expertise in artificial intelligence and other technologies, and a strong network of collaborators (universities, research institutes, NGOs and companies) to collaboratively produce new solutions.

Established in 2012, SciFY has now reached a personnel of 6, a volunteer base of more than 10 people, and some awards, including one from the President of the Hellenic Republic.

Our current Areas of Interest and expertise are:

  1. Supporting the civil society
  2. eDemocracy
  3. Assistive technologies for people with disabilities
  4. Organizational intelligence
  5. Education and Skill building

How do we do this?

We are creating and freely sharing technological tools, knowledgeand mobilizing networks to deliver results on the above impact areas.

The impact achieved so far is twofold: SciFY’s direct impact has exceeded 80,000 beneficiaries. Yet, since we offer IT solutions, create networks and spread knowledge, the indirect impact is difficult to assess, but it is many times more than the direct impact, since usually a user of our solutions serves hundreds or even thousands of end users.

Communication Team

SciFY aims to:

  • Bring cutting edge technology into everyday life for free.
  • Devise and implement open, freely accessible, complete information systems and offer them freely to the public.
  • Combine the skills of scientists and industry experts for our products, under continuous interaction with the public (e.g., consumer groups, other NGOs, the public sector, the industry).
  • Offer its products, including all design and implementation details, to everyone and actively support the reusing and extension of offered technologies into new products.

Why we do it

Because we believe that science is the struggle of a few to conquer a piece of knowledge that belongs to everyone.

All we who work with science believe that our duty is simply to return any segment of science that  falls into our hands to its owner: humanity.

High Technology & AI Building Community Real Needs

We use leading information technology

We form a community

We solve real life problems

We utilize artificial intelligence top technology (machine learning, natural language analysis, computer vision etc.) to face challenges in clever ways.

From beginning to end we create powerful networks of partners (universities, research institutions, NGOs and companies) to develop new collaborative solutions. Always taking the end-user into account. We use the best everyone has to offer, to achieve the best possible result.

We investigate whether there is a real need. And we look into it very carefully. We intervene to address disability issues, e-democracy, to support civil society and provide smart tools to organizations.

Simply Free Knowledge Viability

We offer solutions for free

We share knowledge freely

We help solutions become viable

So simple. Free for all.

We do not keep the knowledge just for ourselves. We explain what we did. We offer open-source codes, share the plans of the devices, communicate the results of our investigations and organize trainings. We share the knowledge for free.

Since we offer the knowledge and the solution of each problem for free, we enhance and urge the community to proceed without us, in order to produce results with duration and impact on society.

George Giannakopoulos has been a researcher in the field of Artificial Intelligence in Greece and North Italy for several years. Works as a programmer and consultant for over 15 years and collaborates with researchers from both sides of the Atlantic. What he experienced as a researcher was beyond his imagination. As he describes it:

" The EU is investing billions of euros in research programs. Consortia research institutions and large companies get huge amounts and develop amazing technologies. Technologies that require only a few months of work to be turned into excellent products, that are even able to change our lives. But most of them remain unused for years within the walls of the institutions that created them. It seems crazy, but it is very rare for someone to take over the little work that remains to bring top research results to everyday life. Moreover, the researchers usually can simply not understand the impact that a technology product can have in daily life, if applied in a friendly and accessible way.”

His desire was to change this. So, along with his dear friend Vassilis (Salapatas), they decided to bridge this gap between research and society. In 2012 they founded SciFY (Science For You), a not-for-profit organization that does exactly that: it uses research results, and forms a community of entrepreneurs, volunteers, researchers and end-users to create useful products, in order to solve real problems. And then offers them to everyone for free.
