Participation at ActionAid's Program: EPIKENTRO

We support ActionAid and the EPIKENTRO program in their effort to strengthen vulnerable social groups and fellow citizens who have been affected by the financial crisis.

Our contribution is to educate students in topics such as IT and Internet.
More specifically, the children of primary education attend the lesson: "Internet: a labyrinth to be discovered!" where they are getting familiarized with the Internet and learn more about their safe use.

While older children, in high school are following the introductory lesson in computer science: "Create your own game!" where teens are getting familiarized with programming, audio and video editing tools and above all think creatively and designing an electronic game.

During the two courses, we are training 50 children in 50 training hours!

Training at the Herakleidon Museum: Artificial Intelligence ... For Teenagers

We started another educational action with the Herakleidon Museum, where we introduce students to Artificial Intelligence. The program aims to create a new, more open and conscious attitude towards Artificial Intelligence, through the acquisition of new knowledge and skills.

Smart eDemocracy Against Fake News

What is it

SMART eD aims to foster European citizenship and improve conditions for civic and democratic participation at EU level by raising citizens’ awareness of national and EU level initiatives to counter fake news and online disinformation.

The project will create an online repository with all the project outcomes, and will provide recommendations for EU policy-makers on strategies and methodologies for the smart use of eDemocracy tools to counter the negative impact of fake news.

In order to maximize our results and impact we are joining forces with 6 other organizations from all around Europe. Each partner will carry out the following activities across the EU:

  • Survey in a national level in order to analyse citizens’ attitudes, habits, needs and ideas on the issue.
  • International experts’ meeting to discuss the survey outcomes, share views and develop a methodology for the local events that will follow.
  • Local events in each country, that will bring together citizens from rural and semi-rural areas to discuss existing EU initiatives.
  • Final conference in Brussels to present the project outcomes and conduct an EU level dialogue involving citizens, NGOs, activists, experts, media and policy-makers.

Here are the results from the events we organizes in Athens and Larissa about Fake News.

Also check here the official site of project SMARTeD and a short report of all the events here.

Stay tuned for more.

Guilty or Innocent | Are journalists part of the political story rather than its narrators?
To whom are they accountable?

Free entrance - Registration

On Wednesday, September 19th 2018, 12:00 pmOikomedia and The Caravan's Journal, invite you to Impact Hub Athens (Karaiskaki 28, 10554 Athens) for an event to answer: Are journalists part of the political story rather than its narrators?

The central idea evolves around what we consider "public interest" and with this Mock Trial, show that we promote the idea of a stronger engagement of the media with the public to whom journalists "should" be accountable. In the current political climate, with lots of media distrust in many western democracies, journalists are seen as part of the political story rather than simply its narrators.

SciFY is included in the inspiring practices in the EU Commission's Entrepreneurship Competence Framework guide to the Entrepreneurship Competence Framework.

Why is this important? Because, as the guide says in the introduction, that is how we are changing the world around us: "The entrepreneurship competence is increasingly recognised as a competence for life, relevant to personal development and fulfilment, finding and progressing in employment, as well as initiating new ventures ranging from community campaigns, social enterprises to new start-up businesses."
